Why I Started Rebels by Nature

When I first came across the Writer Badge in the Rebel Badge Club, I wasn’t entirely sure I was ready for it. Writing has always been something I’ve loved, but like a lot of things, it had fallen by the wayside in the chaos of everyday life. Between juggling a degree, raising two mini rebels, and keeping the puppy from eating the furniture, I wasn’t convinced I could make it work.

But when I read the clause about starting a blog, something clicked. I’ve always wanted a space to share my thoughts and experiences, and this felt like the perfect nudge to finally get started. That’s how Rebels by Nature was born—not because I had a master plan, but because it felt like the right time to try.

Why Rebels by Nature?

Let’s be honest—life isn’t exactly calm and collected around here. I’m a mum of two, one of whom has additional needs, and most days feel like a whirlwind whilst trying to catch a chance to have a paned.

When I was brainstorming names for the blog, I wanted something that captured both the chaos and the small acts of rebellion it takes to keep going. Rebels by Nature felt like the perfect fit: it’s about embracing who we are, mess and all, and finding ways to make progress even when life is far from perfect.

This blog isn’t about pretending I have it all together—it’s about sharing the journey, being honest about the challenges, and celebrating the little victories.

What Starting a Blog Has Taught Me

I’m not going to pretend it’s been easy. Writing the first post felt daunting—there’s always that little voice in your head asking, “Who’s going to read this? Is it even good enough?” But once I started, it became about more than just the badge.

Creating this blog has given me a chance to reflect on what’s important to me, share my experiences, and connect with others who might be on a similar path. It’s also reminded me that taking the first step, however small, is always the hardest part—and once you do, it gets easier.

My Goals for the Writer Badge

This badge isn’t just about starting a blog—it’s about committing to it. Over the next six months, I plan to:

• Write 12 blog posts (this is number three—progress already!).

• Share updates on my Rebel Journey, from small wins to funny fails.

• Explore creative writing again, whether that’s poetry, stories, or something completely new.

For me, the Writer Badge is as much about making time for myself as it is about the words.

What’s Next for Rebels by Nature?

I’ve only just started this journey, but I’m excited to see where it goes. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be writing about the other badges I’m tackling—like the Butterfly Effect Badge, the Fitness Badge, and learning Makaton with my daughter, S.

This space is about progress, not perfection. It’s about documenting the highs and lows, laughing at the chaos, and showing that small steps can lead to big changes.

If you’ve been thinking about starting something new, whether it’s writing, a creative hobby, or just taking a step towards a goal, my advice is simple: start where you are. It doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to be yours.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Here’s to the next step, and the one after that.
